Ripley Jackson's early work as a painter started out with portraiture. Free-standing, life size portraits are constructed of jigsawed plywood panels, coated with a glossy polyester resin. Each piece is also equipped with built-in hardware, allowing it to stand alone. Some of the pieces have actually interacted with each other to create a narrative, as in a performance or play. Recently, Jackson has revived his portraiture work as depicted in his life size portrait of "The Golfer" from his forthcoming "Floridian" series highlighting quintessential characters representing the essence of the often misinterpreted Florida lifestyle.
